about

"Thanks for sending this. I’ve been really enjoying it this week listening to it on my commute. I get through about half on the way in and finish it on the way back out. When I take the train I usually stand in the door so I can see out. It really puts you in your head floating through the Williamsburg and bushwick apartments at night on the J train and this piece on the headphones. I try to do the work of following the melodic lines before they drop. I really like how you use the pan to break up the lines but also create forward momentum. I was listening to some of the rat-drifting albums again last week. They’re really leaning hard into a kind’ve directionless miasma music, which I like, but what bothers me sometimes is a kind’ve comfort or middlebrow skill which slips in. Some kinds of skill or comfort seem to indicate blindness to me, like a lack of awareness of a world outside your own. So many worlds intersect in NY it seems insufficient to settle into your own bracket. This piece doesn’t have any of that which is refreshing. I don’t ever feel trapped into being any particular kind of listener."

This recording required hundreds of hours of work over seven months in in 2022. It involved absolutely no digital effects, digital pedals, digital instruments etc. Composition and improvisation are rendered indistiguishable throughout the recording process. The tape is like a linear patchwork collage of countless distinct moments and changes, assembled seconds at a time to complete a greater picture.

about

The life-altering excitement depicted in a chewing gum advertisement. Antarctica

All-analog 4-track tape recording-compositions by a devastated, unemployed, low-income, YPG veteran, ex-vagrant with disability (in a disabling society). Housing for me has meant a return to music.

Allow this music to fill the room. I recommend NOT using headphones, because since these recordings have undergone only minimal 'mixing' and 'mastering', the volume levels are somewhat inconsistent.
